Private Speech & Language Therapy for Adults in Surrey

Better Speech is a private Speech & Language Therapy service offering home visits to adults in Surrey. It is run by Sarah Macfarlane MA MSc MRCSLT, offering professional assessment, advice and treatment programmes for adults with acquired communication and swallowing disorders.

Acquired communication and swallowing disorders may result a wide variety of neurological and other disorders such as:

  • stroke
  • dementia
  • traumatic brain injury
  • brain surgery/tumour
  • Motor Neurone Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease
  • head and neck surgery

In addition to the above, swallowing difficulties may also be due to the following conditions:

  • connective tissue diseases such as scleroderma and rheumatoid arthritis
  • respiratory diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
  • Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GORD), Laryngopharyngeal Reflux (LPR), and Globus Pharyngeus. Click here for more information on these conditions.

Better Speech operates an open referral system, although patients with swallowing disorders are encouraged to seek referral via their GP or Consultant.

At present, Better Speech does not offer a service for Speech and Language disorders in children, disorders of dysfluency (stammering/stuttering), or for dysphonia (voice problems).
